POCUS for Rural Health Providers Course Description:
GUSI’s acclaimed two-day in person POCUS training course combines high-yield lectures and hands-on scanning sessions. This 13.5 CME course uses a flipped classroom model and is designed to maximize scanning time through low instructor-to-learner and learner-to-ultrasound device ratios. The course is unique, and taught by a multi-specialty group of physicians who are both skilled POCUS practitioners and expert educators. We will strive to match each registered student with an instructor of the same specialty, including Primary Care, Emergency, and Hospitalist/Critical care specialists, and training is optimized for those who work in rural/remote/austere locations. Course participants receive 3+ months of complimentary access to our online POCUS Essentials Course (additional 25 CME hours, a $309 annual subscription) – available immediately after registration.

POCUS Basics and Fundamentals
Laying the groundwork for POCUS, basic physics, probes, machines, and artifacts to get started
Renal/Bladder & Free Fluid
Evaluate for hydronephrosis and free fluid in the abdomen
Hands-On Scanning
Several hours of hands on scanning to test what you’ve learned in each module.
Gallbladder & AAA
Save lives by diagnosing acute cholecystitis and screening for AAA
Lung Ultrasound
Practice identifying a lines, lung sliding. Learn to diagnose CHF, pneumonia, effusions & more. Review cardiac views
Focused Cardiac Echo
Obtain basic cardiac views and learn to evaluate for effusions, systolic function, RV strain, and IVC
Deep Vein Thrombosis
Evaluate for DVT in clinic and avoid unnecessary ER visits hit on vinous isufficiency
Rapid Abdomen Review & 1st Tri OB/IUD

How much does your POCUS training cost?

What medical specialties can apply to the program?
GUSI founders are family doctors who have trained hundreds of physicians in various specialties including family medicine, internal medicine, pediatrics, OB, and emergency medicine. Any clinician of any specialty is eligible to apply.
Can medical professionals from other fields, train with GUSI?
Yes. GUSI believes POCUS is the most revolutionary addition to the physical exam since the stethoscope. Our training programs are designed for all medical professionals who perform physical exams. This includes nurse practitioners, physician assistants, nurses, clinical officers, physical therapists, paramedics, EMTs, and more. Yes. GUSI provides a certificate of completion and a transcript with lessons completed and test scores. Residency directors also receive a template for minimum scanning competency based on AAFP curriculum guidelines.
