POCUS for Generalists Course Description:
GUSI’s in-person POCUS for Generalists course (July 10–11) delivers 13.5 CME hours through a dynamic blend of focused lectures and hands-on ultrasound training. Designed for primary care and generalist clinicians, the course prioritizes scanning time with low learner-to-device and instructor ratios. It is taught by expert POCUS practitioners from various specialties and is ideal for those working in rural, remote, or resource-limited settings.
All participants receive complimentary, immediate access to the online POCUS Essentials Course (25 CME hours, $309 value) for three months post-course. GUSI faculty recommend reviewing “Scanning Technique” videos in advance for an optimized learning experience. Online modules include FAST, Cardiac, Lung, AAA, Gallbladder, Cellulitis/Abscess, Renal, DVT, OB, MSK, Pediatric, Derm, and guided procedures.

Yes, we welcome international participants. In alignment with our mission for health equity, GUSI adjusts pricing structure for resource-limited settings to improve access and impact.
Do you provide accommodation recommendations and special rates?
Yes, for many courses we secure special group rates at nearby hotels. For example, our Portland courses include discounted rates at Residence Inn Portland Downtown/RiverPlace. We provide booking details, deadlines, and reservation links to registered participants. Course location details are provided to all registered learners in advance.
Will I receive CME credits and a certificate of completion?
Yes, you will receive both CME credits (typically 13.5-16 hours depending on the specific course) and a certificate of completion. GUSI also provides a transcript with lessons completed and test scores. For residents, we provide residency directors with a template for minimum scanning competency based on AAFP curriculum guidelines.
Do I need any prior ultrasound experience to attend?
No prior ultrasound experience is required. Our courses are designed for all experience levels, from complete beginners to those seeking to advance their skills. We recommend reviewing the “Scanning Technique” videos in your complimentary online course access before attending for an optimized learning experience.
What is included in the course registration fee?
Your registration includes all hands-on training sessions, expert instruction, course materials, and CME credits (typically 13.5-16 hours depending on the course). You also receive complimentary access to our online course content typically for 3 months post-course (valued at $309), which includes additional CME hours for other essential POCUS applications.
Is there any commercial bias in GUSI’s educational content?
No. All GUSI content is created independently. We collect Conflict of Interest (COI) disclosures from all course contributors to ensure that no one involved has financial relationships that could bias the educational material. To ensure transparency and trust, we follow best practices in medical education to make sure our content remains objective, evidence-based, and free of commercial influence, especially from companies that sell ultrasound devices or related products.
